James about tasting words
James Wannerton is a synaesthete who tastes words. With every heared word, he tastes something:
"I get these tastes whenever I verbalise a written word or hear a spoken one – even in my dreams. I get taste after taste after taste, one after another."
"I live in a house that tastes of mashed potato and I live in a fruit gum town."
&About Germany he says:
"When I visit Germany, everything is coated in marmalade."
James Wannerton can't repress tasting things. The taste occurs automatically. Even weekdays and people's names taste of something:
"Monday's taste rubbery all day long."
"I've been out with girls who taste of fluffy egg-whites, doughy bread, tinned tomatos, yoghurt, cream soda and, my all time favourie - chocolate and raisons. Mmmmm!"
Tasting words constantly can also be very exhausting and disturbing:
"The main problem I have with my particular type of synaesthesia is one of concentration. If I allow the synaesthetic sensations to grow, they can take over and overwhelm all my other senses."
